UK to Force 100,000 Ukrainian Refugees to Leave by 2025
The British newspaper, The Telegraph, reported that approximately 100,000 Ukrainian refugees will be required to leave the UK by September 2025 due to visa expirations.
Deputies Call for Clarification of Ukrainian Refugee Status
Members of Parliament from the Conservative Party in the Verkhovna Rada have called for clarification of the status of Ukrainian refugees once their current 3-year visas expire.
Robert Buckland, a Member of Parliament and former Minister of Justice, has emphasized the need to study the issue of granting permanent residence to Ukrainians due to the “unprecedented and emergency situation.” He also suggests that preparations should be made this year to ensure stability and clarity for refugees, employers, and society.
Bob Seeley, another representative, has praised the government’s support for Ukrainian refugees and advocates for providing them with the opportunity to plan their future, particularly for those with children in schools.
UK Programs Supporting Ukrainian Families
The UK has launched two programs to support Ukrainian families since the start of the Russian military operation in 2022. Over 182,000 Ukrainian citizens have entered the UK since then, with the majority arriving within the first six months of the war. However, around 100,000 individuals will be required to leave the country as most visas granted under state programs were valid for a period of 3 years.
