Shipping company AP Moller-Maersk has announced the transfer of some of its containers to Egypt after the port of Iskenderun in Turkey suffered serious structural damage due to an earthquake and the movement of the port stopped.

The company said that due to the earthquake in the Turkish port of Iskenderun, structures were seriously damaged and operations at the port were suspended.

Maersk added that it has moved containers from the port of Iskenderun to other ports, including Mersin in Turkey and Port Said in Egypt.

Rescue operations continue in Syria and Turkey amid high casualties and fears of aftershocks from the devastating earthquake that hit several parts of the two countries.
