Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahyan confirmed Tehran’s support for the continuation of the ceasefire in Yemen, the lifting of the blockade and a political settlement of the crisis.

During the meeting with the UN envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg Hossein Amir Abdollahyan explained the point of view of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the political solution of the Yemeni crisis.

The Foreign Minister expressed his support for the continuation of the ceasefire, the lifting of the blockade and a political settlement of the Yemeni crisis based on concern for humanitarian issues and within the framework of the Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue.

He also confirmed that his country supported “any dialogue that would guarantee peace and stability in Yemen”, praising the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General to resolve the crisis.

For his part, Grundberg urged Iran to continue supporting the United Nations efforts to bring peace to Yemen, stressing that the United Nations is serious about reaching a political solution to the crisis.

And earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the reason for the settlement of the Yemeni crisis could be a new agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which was announced last week under the auspices of China.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said during a weekly press conference that the Yemeni case is a serious priority for Tehran, and a new positive atmosphere between Iran and Saudi Arabia could be a reason to resolve the crisis.
