At least 12 people, mostly civilian volunteers in the army, were killed Wednesday in an attack attributed to jihadists in northern Burkina Faso, according to local sources.

And Agence France Presse quoted a local resident as saying that “armed men attacked the inhabitants of Bwal” in the north central region, “as a result of which at least 12 people were killed.”

He pointed out that the victims were “mostly volunteers defending the motherland.”

A representative of these forces and another person from the region confirmed the attack to Agence France-Presse.
