After Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Sunday that the military campaign in Ukraine is progressing “on a positive note,” another Russian confirmation came after declaring control of the city of Solidar, emphasizing that it was on the right track.

Leonid Slutsky, head of the Russian State Duma committee on international affairs, emphasized that the West is not seeking a settlement in Ukraine, pointing out that his country has achieved a lot and will continue to achieve all the goals of its military operation, including the end of “failed Western hegemony,” he said.

He believed that Western countries were not looking for a settlement in Ukraine, citing Western military assistance that constantly flows into Kyiv.

The words of the Russian official came in response to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who said earlier on Sunday that the normalization of relations with Russia after the end of the crisis in Ukraine was out of the question.

Stoltenberg added that Western countries will send new batches of heavy weapons to Ukraine.

He also considered that no matter how the Ukrainian crisis ends, it must be said that “the security situation in Europe has completely changed.”

Additional Help

It is noteworthy that tensions between Western countries and Russia reached their highest level last year, after Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine in February.

The European Union and NATO reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in strengthening its defenses and intensifying cooperation between Europe and the US-led alliance.

Over the past week, France, Germany and the United States pledged to provide Ukraine with 40 German Marder armored personnel carriers, 50 American Bradley armored vehicles and a number of French AMX-10 armored vehicles for infantry transport or reconnaissance.

On Saturday, the UK pledged to send 14 Challenger 2 heavy tanks to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

This happened after Russia had established control over the strategic city of Solidar, which somewhat changed the scale, especially since it enabled its troops to advance towards Bakhmut and close to Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.
