Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune said Thursday that a decision had been made to raise wages to 47% at the end of 2023 and early 2024.

In his speech at the Government-Governors meeting, President Abdelmajid Tebbun said: “Wages are not enough, and we understand this, but at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 we will raise the percentage of wages to 47%.

Tebbun explained that in 2023, the first 100% national production of table oil will be produced under the protection of the state and the law, and the first Algerian sugar plant will be launched from the field to the consumer.

Regarding the New Year’s projects, the president said: “2023 will increase the speed of achievement and multiply the achievements … We are moving towards supporting the conquest and improving the living conditions of the citizen, who remains at the top of our priorities.”

He added: “We are moving towards improving public services, restoring real estate, valuing agricultural real estate, encouraging institution building, encouraging investment, creating jobs and upgrading public facilities.”

The President of Algeria called on the owners of money kept outside banks, saying: “I appeal for the last time to those who have accumulated money in their homes to put it in banks”, recalling in this context that the state “provided a thousand guarantees to protect citizens and National economy”.

He pointed to the presence of banks engaged in Islamic banking.
