Journalist Ted Galen Carpenter, in an article for an American conservative, stressed that, despite the huge support for Kyiv from the United States and its allies, Ukraine is unlikely to avoid a crushing defeat.

He said: “The government of Volodymyr Zelensky and his Western friends should seize the opportunity to negotiate to end the conflict and guarantee Ukraine’s neutral status so that the country does not suffer a crushing defeat.”

And he considered that the scenario in which the Ukrainian president avoids defeat is unlikely, and it is likely that the conflict will drag on.

He stressed that some cracks began to appear in the Western bloc regarding continued unrestricted support for Ukraine.
