Local media reported that a new earthquake struck on Wednesday evening on the Syrian-Lebanese border with a magnitude of 4.3.

The information added that the tremors occurred in Lebanon and affected southern Hermel on the border with Syria, and also affected areas of the capital Damascus.

Syrians have also circulated news on social media confirming that residents of the capital Damascus have indeed felt the recent aftershocks.

It is noteworthy that the death toll from the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last Monday exceeded 12,000 on Wednesday.

While rescuers continue to search for survivors trapped under the rubble in very cold weather.

Officials and medics said 9,057 people died in Turkey and 2,992 people in Syria in Monday’s 7.8 earthquake, pushing the preliminary death toll to over 13,000.
