Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said today, Friday, that he is confident that he will remain the coach of the Royal club next season, despite being eight points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Ancelotti added at a press conference on the eve of the meeting with his neighbor Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby at the 23rd stage of the league: “I think (I will stay), I am completely calm.”
“I don’t need to renew my contract, I exist. All I have to do is win matches,” explained the Italian coach, whose contract with Real Madrid expires in June 2024.
And he added: “We will make every effort for this. I don’t have an answer to the question (why Real Madrid are more successful in Europe).”
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has not always been patient with coaches, but after the team beat Liverpool 5-2 in the first leg of the Champions League final on Tuesday, Ancelotti felt relieved.
Real Madrid attaches more historical importance to its success in Europe than to domestic achievements, having won the Champions League 14 times (a record).
Over the past decade, Real Madrid have won the Champions League five times, while they have only won the La Liga three times in the same period.
By contrast, arch-rival Barcelona won the prestigious continental competition once in 2015, and two European cases have since suffered, the latest being its exit from the qualifying cycle to the final Europa League prize, the Europa League. yesterday, Thursday, at the hands of the English “Manchester United”.
