Apple to Launch iOS 17 with New Features and Price Cuts

Apple is gearing up to launch the new iOS 17, which will unlock many new features for the iPhone. However, the update will also cut the cost of some models by up to 50%.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone X, released in 2017, will not support the upcoming operating system, and tech experts are urging users to sell or trade these devices before September next year.

Good condition replacement prices for iPhone X are currently around $190, for iPhone 8 $90, and for iPhone 8 Plus $152.

“The Biggest Leap Forward”

When iOS 16 was launched last year, the price of the iPhone 7 Plus dropped from $138 in June 2022 to $80, and the iPhone 6S Plus dropped from $94 to $47.

In 2017, buying an Apple iPhone X cost $999. The smartphone was the first to abandon Touch ID in exchange for Face ID, marking a new era for the iPhone.

The device, which has been called “the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone,” has more advanced features than the “iPhone 8” series announced at the time.

iPhone X has a glass front and back, stainless steel bezels, and a bezel-less display that have never been seen before on an Apple phone.

iPhone X also features Apple’s first OLED display, called the Super Retina Display, which measures 5.8 inches in diameter.

The anniversary smartphone outperformed flagship devices, but the iPhone 8 was still a favorite among its fans at the time.

Apple reported selling 86.3 million iPhone 8 and 8 Plus worldwide, making it one of the best-selling smartphones ever. However, they were discontinued in February 2020.

That same year, Apple released the iPhone SE, which was essentially an upgraded iPhone, and now it looks like the end of the line for both the iPhone X and iPhone 8 has arrived.

Smartphone Prices are Falling

The SellCell report indicates that the cost of smartphones could fall by 50%, which poses many security risks.

The report said, “The iPhone X and iPhone 8 won’t get the iOS 17 update, which means the phones won’t get security updates either.”

The new iOS 17 updates promise to be extensive, with a host of new security features, including improvements to Safari Private Browsing, Apple Child Protection, and other aesthetic and usability improvements.

Spelling correction will also use a new AI-based model, avoiding previous correction issues that annoyed users.
