The silence of Armie Hammer has been broken. Hammer, 36, shares his experience in a new interview with Air Mail, published Friday night, less than two years after he dealt with many sexual abuse charges that destroyed his career as a movie star.
The Social Network star addresses the accusations of sexual assault against him in the lengthy statement. Although he acknowledges being emotionally abusive to ex-partners, he denies any criminal activity.
Hammer also discusses his childhood years of sexual assault and his thoughts of suicide after the sexual abuse claims crisis in February 2021.
Hammer said in an interview with the Air Mail that a youth pastor had molested him when he was just 13 years old. Hammer claimed that this abuse was the reason for his interest in BDSM.
“That brought sexuality into my life in a way that I had no control over. I had no control over the circumstance. I was powerless to affect the situation, “said Hammer. “I was introduced to sexuality in a terrifying way over which I had no control. My interests changed to include wanting sexual control over the scenario.”
According to Air Mail, Hammer informed his godmother, Candace Garvey, who later validated the allegation to the publication, and an older acquaintance who has since passed away about the claimed childhood tragedy.
Regarding his attempt at suicide following the disclosure of the claims against him, the actor said, “I stepped into the water, swam as far as I could, and prayed that I would either drown, get struck by a boat, or get devoured by a shark. Then I understood that I couldn’t do that to my children because they were still on land.”
When multiple women came forward with misbehavior claims against Hammer in January 2021 and published purported communications from the singer focused on BDSM and cannibalistic fantasies, Hammer’s problems were well known.
Soon later, the actor’s publicist and talent agency WME parted ways. Later, he dropped out of other acting roles, including those in Gaslit, starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn, Shotgun Wedding, starring Jennifer Lopez, and The Godfather-inspired Paramount+ series The Offer. And Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins.
A lady named Effie, associated with the social media page House of Effie, made one of the most significant accusations against Hammer, claiming the two had a protracted connection and that the actor had molested her.
In an earlier news conference, Effie said that Hammer had abused her “mentally, emotionally, and sexually” throughout their four-year, on-and-off relationship. When the alleged affair allegedly took place, Hammer was wed to Elizabeth Chambers.
The Air Mail article’s reporting refutes Effie’s assertion. But as one of the authors of the post noted, the outlet was able to receive direct messages that Effie allegedly sent to Hammer’s ex-wife, detailing the relationship and purportedly writing, “I was pretty much chasing him.”
Days later, Air Mail said Effie shared a private message with a follower on Instagram claiming that the sex she had with Hammer was inappropriate. “He was described as “such an incredible Daddy,” “consensual,” and “not harmful.” He raped no one.”
The following day, when questioned by a different follower if she had “legal representation,” Effie reportedly replied, “I’m not alleging he raped me. No need for legal rep.”
Although Effie would later accuse Hammer of sexual assault, the actor insisted to Air Mail that the moment they had sex—which Effie described as a rape—was a prepared “scene.”
For us to partake in a “consensual non-consent scenario,” or CNC, she meticulously arranged every detail, including which Starbucks I would meet her at, how I would follow her home, and how her front door would be open and unlocked when I arrived. “Everything was discussed in advance. I have never suddenly put this upon someone. Never.”
Hammer also addressed the allegations made by two other women he had relationships with, Paige Lorenze and Courtney Vucekovich, the latter featured in the Discovery+ documentary series House of Hammer that was devoted to Hammer.
Recognizing that “Hammer told Air Mail that “the power dynamics were off” and acknowledged that he was “100%” emotionally abusive to both women. He added, “I would have these younger women in their mid-20s, and I’m in my 30s. At the time, I had a good acting career. They might have been content to be with me and consented to activities they might not have done independently. There is a power disparity present here.”
The man continued, “I had a very intense and extreme lifestyle, and I would scoop up these women, bring them into it—into this whirlwind of travel, sex, drugs, and big emotions flying around—and then as soon as I was done, I’d drop them off and move on to the next woman, leaving that woman feeling abandoned or used.
Hammer also disclosed to Air Mail that he is prepared to start fresh. “I’m here to own my faults, accept responsibility for being a jerk and self-centered and use others to make myself feel better before moving on. Likewise mistreated individuals more harshly than necessary, “added said.
At the end of May 2021, Hammer reportedly checked himself into rehab for drug and alcohol problems. “I’ve improved my health, happiness, and sense of balance. I can now be present for my children in a manner I never could. In a manner I would have never been able to, I can be present for my dad as he passes away, “said he. (Three weeks after Air Mail claimed to have spoken with the actor, Hammer’s father, Michael Hammer, passed away in November 2022.)
“I am sincerely appreciative of everything, including my life and recuperation. I wouldn’t change everything that has happened to me in the past, “Hammer inserted.
The Call Me by Your Name star added that he helps another recovering addict transition out of rehab by serving as his sober buddy.
I’m going to move in with him and live with him, establish a regular schedule for [recovery] meetings, take him to the gym, and prepare nutritious meals for him, said Hammer. “I feel like my recovery has changed from me needing support to keep sober to me being able to help others,” said the recovering person.
Hammer then corroborated a Vanity Fair story claiming that Robert Downey Jr. helped him while receiving treatment.
“Examples can be found everywhere. Robert is one of those people who experienced such horrors and sought atonement by choosing a different course. And that, in my opinion, is what this woke-mob, cancel-culture nonsense is missing, “said Hammer. “They are eliminated the moment they sin. Rehabilitation is not an option.”
During his conversation with Air Mail, Hammer also considered his possibility of returning to Hollywood, telling the outlet that he doesn’t see it happening any time soon.
“I won’t get any jobs. I won’t have any insurance. Nothing works to help me get bonded for a project, “he explained. And nobody will approach me because they would be supporting abusers if they hired me,
Hammer said, “When they toss someone like me on the fire to protect themselves, they don’t know that all they’re doing is making the fire bigger, and they risk getting canceled themselves because of the townwide fire. And since the fire has gotten out of control, everyone will be burned. And they keep sacrificing individuals for their protection by tossing them onto it.”
