The Azerbaijani presidency stated that President Ilham Aliyev informed US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken about the situation in the Karabakh region and denied the closure of the Lachin corridor connecting the region with Armenia.

According to a statement from the Azerbaijani presidential administration, Aliyev “announced that there were no closures on the Lachin-Khankendi road, and that since December 12 last year, 980 vehicles had passed through it, including more than 850 vehicles of the Russian peacekeeping forces and more than 120 vehicles of the International Committee.” . He added that the International Committee of the Red Cross transferred about 90 sick Karabakh people to Armenia.

Aliyev stressed the need to “stop the extraction of natural resources in the Karabakh region, and Azerbaijan must conduct constant monitoring in the region.”

It is noteworthy that a group of Azerbaijanis has closed the Lachin corridor linking Karabakh with Armenia since December 12 last year. Armenia called Azerbaijan’s actions a “deliberate provocation”, while the Azerbaijani side rejects Armenia’s accusations and denies the closure of the corridor.

He called on international partners, including Russia and the United States, to lift the blockade of the corridor.
