The White House press service said that US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.
According to a White House statement, Biden assured Zelensky of continued U.S. support for Ukraine’s defense while Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
Biden stressed that the United States is prioritizing efforts to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses through security assistance, including announcing a $275 million aid package on Dec. 9 in the form of ammunition and additional equipment, including systems to counter Russia’s use of drones. .
Biden noted the November 29 announcement of $53 million in energy infrastructure support to stabilize Ukraine’s power grid in the wake of the attacks on Russia.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to continue to provide security, economic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, to hold Russia accountable for its “war crimes and atrocities” and to place the costs on Russia for its “aggression.”
