European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell invited Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to visit Brussels and told him that the bloc wanted negotiations to continue.

Borrell’s spokesman, Peter Stano, said in a statement that “during the call, the two sides agreed to meet as soon as possible … possibly at the Munich Security Conference in February,” noting that “in this first constructive exchange, Borrell expressed his desire to and the desire of the European Union to build on the recent momentum in EU-Israel relations following the resumption of the Association Council in October.

“In the light of current events, Borrell recalled the well-known positions of the European Union on the need to avoid unilateral measures and expressed serious concern about the high number of victims,” he added.

Talks between the two sides took place last October as part of the EU-Israel Partnership Council after a ten-year hiatus since Israel announced meetings on EU opposition to settlement expansion in the West Bank.
