Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szygarto said that preparations are underway to organize a visit by Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Kyiv, and Budapest looks forward to a dialogue with Ukraine.
Minister Sigarto said in an interview with Croatian television N1 during his recent visit to Zagreb, which was broadcast today, Sunday: “When we see that all the preconditions are in place, the visit will take place. But we are now in the technical preparation stage.”
Prime Minister Orban said he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when he attended the EU summit in Brussels on February 9.
He added: “We are always ready for dialogue (with Ukraine). We hope that the dialogue will be logical.”
As Nepsava previously reported, during a brief meeting at the EU summit, Orban received an invitation from Zelensky to visit Kyiv. This is not like the leaders of other countries, who were not in the Ukrainian capital after Russia launched a special operation.
It is noteworthy that in November last year, Hungarian President Katalin Novak made a trip to Kyiv.
At the same time, during a recent meeting with journalists, the head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Yergely Gyash, indicated that Orban’s visit to Kiev will depend on the progress that will be made in restoring the rights of ethnic Hungarians in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine.
In turn, in Budapest, they believe that the Ukrainian authorities are persecuting the Hungarian minority there and depriving them of the opportunity to use their native language and teach it in local schools.
