Carlos De Oliveira Pleads Not Guilty in Trump Classified Documents Case
Carlos De Oliveira, a property manager at Trump’s Palm Beach resort, entered a not-guilty plea on Tuesday in the federal criminal case involving former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents. This comes after two previous unsuccessful attempts to enter a plea.
De Oliveira is facing four criminal counts related to an alleged attempt to delete surveillance footage from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. He was added to the case in a superseding indictment filed last month.
The arraignment took place in U.S. District Court in Fort Pierce, Florida, and had been delayed twice due to difficulties in securing local counsel.
In a brief hearing, Magistrate Judge Shaniek Maynard wished De Oliveira good luck.
Along with De Oliveira, Trump and his valet, Walt Nauta, were also charged with additional counts in the superseding indictment. Nauta had previously pleaded not guilty, while Trump had already pleaded not guilty and waived his appearance.
The new charges accuse all three defendants of plotting to delete security footage that had been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury. Trump also faces a charge of retaining a classified document after leaving the White House.
These charges in Florida are just one of four active criminal cases against Trump, as he pursues the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. He was recently indicted in Georgia on charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
