British King Charles III decided to break with the past and abandon the traditional costume that his ancestors wore during the coronation ceremony.
And the 74-year-old British monarch decided to wear a military uniform after aides convinced him that traditional clothing was outdated and should keep up with the times.
Charles wants his coronation to represent a “modern monarchy for the 21st century” so he won’t be wearing old-fashioned stockings and breeches, even though he was ready for it.
Charles’ grandfather, King George VI, great-grandfather King George V and great-grandfather King Edward VII were seen wearing the old dress. But it is believed that the tradition goes back even further.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will be crowned together at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, the fourth birthday of Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie.
Charles is expected to arrive in a military uniform, possibly an Admiral of the Fleet, which he wore to the official opening of Parliament last May.
At the ceremony, he will also wear the Imperial State furs and St. Edward’s crown. What crown will be on Queen Camille is not specified.
A source said: “There are claims that the party will be smaller compared to the party of the late Queen Elizabeth in 1953. It will be a little different, but in terms of scale and spectacle, you will love it.”
Due to the reduction, there was a problem with the preparation of a guest list of 2,000 guests in the House of Commons, where it is planned to invite only 20 deputies out of 650. The decision to invite Prince Harry and his wife has not yet been made by Meghan.
