CIA Director Bill Burns confirmed that Iran is now capable of enriching uranium by 90% in a few weeks.
But Burns added in an interview with CBS News: “We do not believe that the Iranian leader has made the decision to restart the militarization of his country’s nuclear program.”
On the possibility of China sending military aid to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine, Burns said: “We are confident that the Chinese leadership is considering providing lethal equipment” to Russia.
Burns warned: “China should try to assess the consequences if it supplies weapons to Russia.”
No evidence of Chinese deliveries to Moscow
Burns stressed that China has not yet decided on the transfer of military assistance to Russia. “We do not see that the final decision has yet been made, and we do not see evidence of real deliveries of lethal equipment,” he said.
“No foreign leader has followed Vladimir Putin’s experience in Ukraine and the development of the war more closely than Xi Jinping,” Burns said, adding, “I think in many ways he was disturbed by what he saw.”
He warned: “I think we need to take Xi’s ambitions for ultimate control of Taiwan seriously. But this, in our opinion, does not mean that a military conflict is inevitable. We believe that President Xi and his military leadership today doubt whether he could have made this conquest.”
