Haberturk reported Monday that two other Turkish opposition candidates have collected the 100,000 signatures needed to complete registration for Turkey’s presidential election.

At present, it can be assumed that at least 4 candidates will participate in the race for the presidency, and these are the country’s incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the head of the main opposition Republican People’s Party, Kamal Kilicdaroglu, and Ennis Ogan. The Central Election Commission previously approved the candidacies of Erdogan and Kılıçdaroglu, as they were nominated from parliamentary factions and did not need to collect signatures, while the rest of the competitors, numbering 9 politicians, who were nominated by parties not represented in parliament, or in addition to the parties, they are trying to collect the missing votes by 8 pm today, which is difficult to do in the remaining hours.

Currently, the head of the Rodina party, Dogu Berincik, has received more than 24.5 signatures, and the head of the New Prosperity party, Fatih Erbakan, has received 69.2 thousand signatures, but announced his withdrawal from the election race amid joining the ruling republican bloc, and received The remaining candidates have so far collected less than 3,000 signatures.

Presidential elections in Turkey will be held on May 14 along with legislative elections. To win in the first round, a candidate for the post of head of state must receive more than 50% of the vote, otherwise a second round will be held, in which the two candidates who received the most support in the first round will take part. The previous presidential elections were held on June 24, 2018, in which the incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 52.6% of the vote.
