European bicycle sales slowed significantly in 2022 after strong growth during the pandemic, but sales of electric models are showing steady growth, according to a report from the European Bicycle Industry Association (Konibi) on Tuesday. .
In 2022, 14.7 million non-electric bikes were sold in the European Union and the UK, down 9.1% from 2021.

“The European industry has shown remarkable resilience in 2022 despite a significant decline in sales of traditional bicycles and continued post-pandemic logistical challenges,” said Konibi President Erhard Bohl.

The number of bicycles produced in Europe decreased slightly and amounted to 15.3 million bicycles (-5% yoy), but the number of electric bicycles produced increased significantly and reached 5.4 million bicycles, an increase of 19%.
