The Dutch Defense Ministry said in a statement late on Monday that two Dutch F-35 fighter jets intercepted a group of three Russian warplanes near Poland and drove them out of the area.

“The then unknown aircraft approached Poland’s area of responsibility within NATO from Kaliningrad,” the ministry said in a statement.

Kaliningrad is a region of Russia on the coast of the Baltic Sea between Poland and Lithuania, members of NATO and the European Union.
