The Egyptian Ministry of Transport aims to complete the implementation of the Cairo-Cape Town road in a short time, as its road is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
The Ministry of Transport has come a long way in the quality of all work to Arkin in Sudan, since the Cairo-Cape Town road is planned to pass through 9 African countries and has a length of 10,228 thousand km, of which 1,155 km. km is located in Egypt, and the road helps to reduce the time between North and South Africa, an average of only 5 days, and the dream of connecting Cairo and South Africa will be realized.
It is planned that the Ministry of Transport will complete the implementation of the road by the end of next 2024, as the Cairo-Cape Town road begins, from the port of Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea, passing through Cairo – to Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia and up to South Africa .The new road will also increase traffic. Trade between African countries, where the road passes through the governorates of Faiyum, Beni Suef, Minya, Asyut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan, then the road stretches from Aswan to the border with Egypt, passing through the Toshka junctions and even Arkin at 22 latitude, and from there to Sudan.
The Ministry of Transport signed with the Ministry of Transport of Sudan in October 2020 a document on joint cooperation in the field of railway communication, the purpose of which is to provide the necessary funding and start an economic, social and environmental feasibility study for a railway project between Egypt and Sudan, which in the first stage will extend from the city of Aswan south of Wadi Halfa. Financing through coordination and cooperation between Egypt, Sudan and the Kuwait Economic Development Fund.
The Cairo-Cape Town road project is of great importance in achieving land connectivity and expanding trade with African countries, as well as serving the citizens of Egypt and Africa, opening up new horizons for employment opportunities and achieving inclusive development.
South Africa has previously expressed interest in joint cooperation with Egypt in various areas of transport and increasing trade between African countries Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, due to his comprehensive vision in all areas, including the transport sector, and that the Free Trade Agreement in Africa provides great opportunities for cooperation between African countries, but the transport sector remains an important factor that will effectively contribute to the realization of these ambitions.
The transport sector is expected to see a resurgence in achieving the desired African renaissance, given that Egypt and South Africa, along with other countries such as Morocco, Nigeria and Kenya, play an important role in the field of transport.
