Elon Musk, who has been critical of artificial intelligence lately, appears to be planning to infiltrate the industry with his own company, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times.
Musk was reported to have set up a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI Corp, based on last month’s government dossier seen by sources who confirmed that Musk was listed as the “sole director” of the US-created company. Nevada, while named “Jared Birchall”, director of his family’s office, was named secretary.
Elon Musk is known to prefer the letter “X” and recently renamed “Twitter Corp” to “X Corp”.
And Musk is no stranger to AI projects. He co-founded OpenAI before leaving the company nearly a decade ago. Following ChatGPT’s rapid rise in popularity, Musk called for regulation of the technology and signed an open letter urging tech leaders to stop developing it for six months.
While details are still scarce, previous reports have provided evidence of how Musk’s AI efforts are progressing. In March, he hired two former DeepMind researchers, including scientist Igor Babushkin, who he believes is leading the new project.
Musk also reportedly bought 10,000 AI GPUs from one of Twitter’s data centers.
In addition, according to The Times, he is already in talks with investors Tesla and SpaceX to invest in his new venture.
