Emirates airline said on Friday that “significant” ticket revenues are being held in Nigeria and that it has made only slow progress in moving the confiscated funds out of Africa’s largest economy.

On Thursday, Nigerian Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika told reporters that Emirates has received most of its money from Nigeria and has yet to transfer about $35 million.

Emirates spokeswoman Rola Tadros said in an email that about 50% of the amounts approved for transfers are past due and that the process is “still fraught with persistent delays.”
