Eritrean President Isaias Afwerk accused the United States of being behind the war that broke out between the Tigray Liberation Front and the Ethiopian government in November 2020.
In an interview with Eritrean Television, Afverki said that the peaceful developments witnessed by Ethiopia and Eritrea in 2018, which inspired hope and optimism in the region and beyond, worried the United States, which pushed the Tigray Liberation Front into unprecedented recklessness to attack the northern base of the Ethiopian army, and after that the war with the Ethiopian government began, according to Afwerki.
The Ethiopian Monitor website claimed that Afwerki launched a vicious attack on the Tigray Liberation Front, accusing it of being responsible for the war with the Ethiopian government and calling the war destructive and unjustified.
Afwerki added: “The Tigray Liberation Front signed a peace agreement with the Government of Ethiopia in Pretoria in South Africa and was forced to do so,” and said: “The Tigray Liberation Front was forced to sign the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement in Pretoria, which mainly concerned those drawn up by Washington with purpose of preventing its military defeat.
Afwerki stressed that his country does not have “any reservations regarding the Ethiopian peace agreement” and said that the African Monitoring Group must ensure that the peace agreement is implemented in good faith and in full.
Afwerki spoke about what he called the historical facts of the consequences of the new US national security strategy for the global and regional world.
He said: A deeply rooted political culture based on greed and control by a few has been the main cause of the unrest and conflict that has gripped the world in recent decades.
He added that this small minority does not seek peace and stability based on common values and interests, but “pursues a zero-sum policy.”
According to the President of Eritrea, the new US national security strategy does not contain new concepts, and that “its main goal is to revive and support the unipolar world order.”
