Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday there was no chance of extending an agreement allowing Ukraine to safely export grain across the Black Sea in Russian-controlled waters.
“It is almost impossible to predict any final decision on this matter, but I can say that, judging realistically from the current situation, this agreement has no chance,” Peskov added in a video posted on the Telegram channel of the Izvestia newspaper.
Kremlin: Russia’s ‘good intentions’ on Black Sea deal won’t last long
And last Wednesday, the Kremlin said Russia’s “good intentions” can’t last forever when it comes to extending an agreement to export grain across the Black Sea.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia was considering withdrawing from the grain deal, saying the West had deceived Moscow by failing to honor any of its promises to provide global market access for Russian agricultural products.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said they see no prospects for extending the agreement on the export of grain through the Black Sea, which expires in mid-July.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently hinted that Moscow would not allow an extension of the grain deal unless there were real changes.
“Russia’s demands in the grain agreement have not yet been met,” Lavrov said, noting that only 3 percent of grain exports under the agreement go to poor countries.
