Today, Saturday, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) formally agreed to test the new offside law before it is fully enforced in all matches and tournaments.

The new offside law stipulates that an attacker must be in front of his entire body over the last defender to be in an offside position, and not just part of his body, as is currently the case.

FIFA added that the new law will be tested at select matches in Sweden, the Netherlands and Italy before being applied to all competitions if successful.

It was Arsène Wenger, Arsenal’s historic coach and chairman of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) Development Committee, who proposed the new offside rule.
