Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, answering a question from a parliamentarian after the presentation of the annual report, stressed the need to start a public debate on the LGBT issue and decide what is acceptable and what is unacceptable.
Today, the Constitution of Georgia guarantees freedom of expression and speech, censorship is prohibited here. In addition, Georgian law prohibits discrimination and guarantees the equality of all citizens.
The Prime Minister said: “We must open a debate on this issue. The time has come and the conditions are ripe for us to open up a debate on the LGBT issue and define our position once and for all. We must be clear about what we support. and what is acceptable to us. For me, LGBT propaganda in schools and kindergartens is unacceptable. This is a catastrophe”.
The Prime Minister of Georgia indicated that LGBT propaganda among children in the United States is unacceptable to him, just as the campaign of the McDonald’s restaurant chain in Georgia is unacceptable.
He added: “In our country, this issue should be banned. You can open discussions in parliament and resolve the issue at the legislative level. But for this it is necessary to hold discussions and reach a general consensus.”
According to him, 90% of the Georgian population supports the institution of the family and Christian values, so the problem must be resolved.
He said: “We are not going to repeal the discrimination law. With this law, we show that we are a civilized and tolerant society, and this has always been the case. This is part of our culture. unacceptable to our culture, people, traditions, religion and faith. We must separate issues and not bind law and values. We must protect schools and kindergartens from this harmful propaganda.”
The topic of childhood homosexuality is coming up again in Georgia after a gift book appeared on the McDonald’s Happy Meal children’s menu detailing Elton John’s life, including his marriage to same-sex man David French and their adoption.
