German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Friday that Germany is in talks with the Iraqi government about the possibility of importing natural gas from Iraq, while Berlin is seeking to diversify energy sources after cutting fossil fuel imports from Russia.
“We also talked about possible gas supplies to Germany and agreed to maintain close contact,” Schultz said at a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shaaa al-Sudani in Berlin.
Schultz did not give any other details about the volumes of gas that Germany hopes to import from Iraq.
