Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, said in a note to employees seen by Reuters that the company has cut 12,000 jobs.

The cuts are the latest in the tech sector and come just days after competitor Microsoft announced it would lay off 10,000 employees.

The job cuts are affecting teams across the company, including some engineering and product teams.

Google said the layoffs are global and affect US employees with immediate effect.
