The Iraqi Government Announces Start of Basra-Shalamche Railway Project

The Iraqi government announced today that the groundwork will be laid tomorrow for the start of the Basra-Shalamche railway project. This project aims to establish a railway connection between Basra in Iraq and Shalamche, a city located in the Khuzestan province of Iran near the border with Iraq.

The Iraqi government stated that the groundbreaking ceremony will take place once the Ministry of Transportation and Basra Province confirm the completion of all necessary procedures as per Cabinet Resolution (23333) for the implementation of the railway project.

Bassem Al-Awadi, the spokesperson for the Iraqi government, mentioned that this vital project will enhance transportation for travelers and visitors between Iraq and Iran. It is also expected to facilitate the transportation of travelers and guests from Central Asian countries to Iraq, making it an important transport project in the region.

Al-Awadi further added that this project serves as a stepping stone for future strategic transportation projects that will connect Iraq with its neighboring countries. After years of discussions and research, the government is finally working on its implementation to ensure its success.
