Less than six months after testing positive for testicular cancer, Sebastian Haller returned for a friendly against his club Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
The Ivorian striker came on as a 74th-minute substitute in a 5-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf at the Spanish winter training camp before the German football season resumed next week.
Galler required chemotherapy and two surgeries, the second in late November after being told he had testicular cancer in July.
The diagnosis was made two weeks after Haller joined Dortmund and before he played for the team.
Dortmund signed Haller from Ajax hoping to replace prolific Norwegian striker Erling Haaland after he was sold to Manchester City.
Haller, who was born in France, was the top scorer in the Dutch League last season with 21 goals and scored 11 goals during Ajax’s march to the round of 16 of the Champions League.
Without him, Borussia suffered in the Bundesliga, finishing sixth, nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
