The American magazine Newsweek said that the Abrams tanks that the United States will supply to Ukraine could turn into a big and serious problem for the Kyiv authorities.

The magazine believes that, despite the obvious advantages of this tank, expressed in its firepower, armor resistance and speed, its engine “consumes fuel very greedily”, therefore, complex logistic schemes must be created to supply these combat vehicles with fuel.

The magazine quotes John Spencer, a retired US Army major, as saying, “Overall, Ukraine suffers from clear fuel problems.”

In turn, Matthew Hoch, a captain in the US Marine Corps, said that training Ukrainian soldiers to use the Abrams tanks would take a long time. The captain agreed with what expert Spencer said, pointing out the difficulty of providing fuel to the Ukrainian forces.

For its part, the Politico newspaper, citing an informed source, said that Ukraine would receive an improved version of the Abrams tank from the United States, but it would be a version intended for export and without a secret armor alloy.

According to the publication, US policy prohibits the export of Abrams tanks protected by depleted uranium armor. The composition of this alloy used in armor is classified, and if Abrams tanks are sold abroad, they are supplied with other types of armor plates.
