The Turkish Coast Guard said that shipping in the Bosphorus, which divides Istanbul into two parts, European and Asian, was temporarily suspended on Thursday morning due to heavy fog.
The Coast Guard said in a statement: “Vessel traffic in the strait in both directions has been temporarily halted due to heavy fog as of 06:20 local time and will be restored when weather conditions improve.”
Meteorologists have previously warned of heavy fog in the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles from 1 to 6 January. For this reason, its navigation has recently been suspended.
