Japanese authorities and companies said heavy snowfall in many parts of Japan today, Friday, has led to the cancellation of 100 flights, the closure of dozens of roads and the disruption of rail links.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, domestic airlines including ANA, Japan Airlines and others canceled a total of 100 flights due to snow before noon.
The ministry added that parts of 31 expressways in central and eastern Japan were closed, and 54 main highway exits in central Tokyo were closed.
The ministry also said that traffic on more than 12 railway lines in central and eastern Japan has been stopped or planned.
East Japan Railways, the country’s largest rail operator, said high-speed train service between Tokyo and Yamagata Prefecture would be halted later in the day.
Major delivery services, including Yamato Transport and Sagawa Express, said their services may be delayed until Saturday.
