While Twitter has undergone major changes since it was bought by controversial American businessman Elon Musk, the platform recently announced that it was disbanding its Trust and Safety Council.
In an email sent Monday evening to council members and received by US media, Twitter announced the new decision.
Critics saw the move as yet another example of Musk’s abandonment of efforts to make the social network a more civilized and safer place.
Dismissal of important figures
They explained that the dissolved board is made up of several advisory groups that include experts who have volunteered their time to address critical issues on the platform.
Their main areas of focus are online safety and harassment, human rights and digital technology, suicide prevention and mental health, and child sexual exploitation.
The group includes representatives from GLAAD, the Samaritan Human Rights Foundation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
They also reminded Musk of previous commitments he made to making Twitter a safe haven for freedom of expression, and removing sexual content that targets children is his “top priority.”
Warnings.. Twitter can turn into an arena of violence
Change does not bode well
Notably, Twitter has lost nearly two-thirds of its staff since Musk took office, including many employees who worked in trust, security, and related areas.
Last week, three board members resigned in protest of the platform’s recent changes, citing evidence in a statement that they say shows the safety and well-being of Twitter users is deteriorating.
And the platform’s new owner has issued new guidelines since its acquisition that have taken over the world in recent times, amid fears that layoffs of large numbers of employees will lead to more loopholes and defects.
Twitter also saw a number of issues, including an automated intellectual property rights system that stopped for a while and forced some users to post a number of clips with the rights, and remained on the platform for several hours before being removed.
It was also reported that accounts were hacked, and the site was slow, especially when interacting with users.
In addition, users have recently experienced issues with the two-step verification process that text messages are sent to access their accounts, and others have reported issues uploading their data to Twitter.
