Flights were disrupted at several airports in Germany on Monday in the latest in a series of one-day strikes linked to various wage disputes.
The Verdi Union called for “warning strikes” at the airports of Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover and Bremen.
About 200 flights in Berlin have been canceled, according to dpa, and about a third of the 200 arriving flights are expected to be cancelled.
Hamburg Airport announced the cancellation of all 123 outbound flights during the strike, as well as at least 50 out of 121 inbound flights, AP news agency reported.
The airport strikes come amid difficult wage negotiations for German federal and municipal civil servants. Trade unions are pushing for a 10.5% pay increase while employers are offering a 5% overall increase in two installments and a lump sum of €2,500 per employee. which unions were rejected as insufficient.
The next round of negotiations is due to begin on March 27. Negotiations are also ongoing at the national level for the salaries of air safety workers and at the local level for ground services.
