Immunologist doctor Sergei Bykov warned that with rising seasonal temperatures, many are suffering from mosquito bites, which cause pain and allergies for some.

The specialist points out that an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite can vary in severity:

– A local reaction with significant swelling, reddening of the skin and high fever may persist for 10-14 days.

Systemic reaction with the appearance of urticaria (itchy rash). In this case, anaphylactic shock may occur.

Respiratory reaction with attacks of suffocation.

And the risk of developing an allergic reaction from mosquito bites is increased in children, especially young children, as well as in people with mastocytosis and in people who are often in places where there are a lot of mosquitoes.

He notes that doctors use laboratory methods to detect IgE antibodies to allergens. To protect yourself from mosquito bites, your doctor recommends mosquito nets, long-sleeved clothing and pants, and insect repellants, chemicals that repel mosquitoes and other insects. Insecticides can be applied to skin or clothing to provide protection for several hours.

Mosquito bite allergy treatment includes antihistamines, hormonal ointments or pills depending on the severity of the reaction, he said, since antihistamines help reduce allergy symptoms such as itching, redness and swelling. As for hormonal ointments and tablets, their doctors prescribe them in more severe cases, when an allergic reaction leads to serious consequences.
