According to Apple’s release notes for the software update, iOS 16.4 will bring new Crash Detection enhancements to all iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. The update will likely be made available to the general public as early as the week after the current one.
Apple does not offer any precise facts or information regarding the enhancements on its website. Despite this, the business has been working hard to improve Crash Detection after receiving complaints from emergency dispatchers in many United States and Canadian locations about the function causing skiers and snowboarders to make unnecessary calls to 911 during the winter season. Following the iOS 16.1.2 upgrade in November and the iOS 16.3.1 release only last month, this is the third version with Crash Detection enhancements.
Crash Detection was made available for all iPhone 14 models and the most recent Apple Watch models when it was released the year before. It has been reported that the feature, intended to detect a severe car crash and automatically call emergency services if a user does not respond to the device within 20 seconds, has occasionally confused a skier or snowboarder falling as a car crash. These reports have come from popular skiing areas such as Colorado, Utah, New York, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota. The feature was designed to detect a severe car crash.
It has yet to be determined whether or not the most recent optimizations will completely fix the problem. Because the ski season in the United States and Canada is ending, we can only determine whether or not iOS 16.4 will reduce the number of fraudulent 911 calls next winter.
