Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani called on the French government and police to show restraint, renounce violence and pay attention to the demands of the protesters.

Kanaani said in press statements: “The practice of discriminating against immigrants, not accepting them and not correcting their mistreatment by some European countries has led to the creation of unsuitable conditions for European citizens, including in France, and that it is required that the French government respect the principles of human dignity, freedom of speech and the right to freedom of expression”. Peaceful protest of citizens and the cessation of arbitrary actions with their citizens.

He stated that Iran is closely following current events in France and urges its citizens living in France not to make unnecessary hesitation in cities and regions where clashes are taking place due to the insecure and unpredictable situation in France.

He also urged Iranian citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to France as much as possible in light of the current crisis conditions.

Protests have erupted across parts of France after a police officer killed a 17-year-old during a road check in Nanterre last Tuesday morning after refusing to comply with a police demand. After that, riots broke out in a number of French cities, which have been going on for several days.
