Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Welcomes Biden’s Announcement of Railway and Sea Corridor

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on US President Joe Biden’s announcement of plans to create a railway and sea corridor connecting India with the Middle East and Europe, passing through Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Netanyahu’s Statement

Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is at the center of an unprecedented international project, a project that will link infrastructure between Asia and Europe.

Netanyahu added that this connection will achieve a long-term vision that will change the face of the Middle East and the face of Israel.

He added: “This is news that will take us into a new era of unique and unprecedented regional and global integration and cooperation.”

Gratitude to President Biden

He continued by saying, “I would like to thank US President Joe Biden and his administration for the tremendous efforts that have led us to today’s historic announcement. Several months ago, the United States contacted us about pursuing this historic opportunity. Since then, he has been proactive diplomatic contacts to achieve the achievement that has been achieved today.”

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen’s Response

For his part, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said: “I welcome US President Joe Biden’s proposal for a continental link project that will connect India through the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea.”

He stressed that the Foreign Ministry continues to work to strengthen the connection between the Abraham Accords countries and Israel, which will be reduced in an unprecedented way, noting that the time of transporting goods through the Gulf countries to Israel and from there to Europe will significantly reduce transport costs.

He noted that this is part of the vision for regional peace and the latest fruit of the Abraham Accords, signed 3 years ago, which are changing the face of the Middle East, increasing the stability and prosperity of the peoples of the region, and reducing the cost of living for Israelis.

Project Announcement

Earlier today, US President Joe Biden and his allies announced plans to build a railway and freight corridor linking India to the Middle East and Europe in a project aimed at promoting economic growth and political cooperation.

Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the project during the annual G20 summit and it is part of an initiative called the Partnership for Global Infrastructure Investment as the corridor will boost trade and energy transfers, resources and develop connectivity.

According to Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan, the project includes India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Israel and the European Union.
