Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton believed that the exchange of Russian Viktor Bout, convicted in America for arms smuggling, for basketball player Britney Griner symbolizes the surrender of Washington.
Today, Thursday, Bolton tweeted on his blog: “Exchanging boots for Grainer is not a deal, it’s just an American capitulation. American power doesn’t look like that,” adding that Washington’s critics are now “rejoicing.”
It was basketball player Brittney Griner, who was arrested in a Russian prison on drug trafficking charges.
The US administration is already under fire from local political opponents who see the exchange process as “unequal”.
They also blame President Joe Biden for not including Paul Whelan, who was convicted of espionage in the Russian Federation and has been in jail much longer than Griner. Note that he previously served his country in the marines.
