The countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) signed a joint statement on Tuesday confirming that the organization is not directed against other countries and international organizations and is open to broad cooperation.

And in the statement, which was signed following the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization under the chairmanship of India, today, Tuesday, via video link, it says: “Member states confirm that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is not directed against other countries and international organizations and is open to broad cooperation with it in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the Charter of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and international law, and on the basis of taking into account common interests and common positions in solving regional and global problems.

The statement added: “Member States support respect for the rights of peoples to an independent and democratic choice of their political, social and economic methods of development and note that the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity of states, equality of rights, mutual benefit, non-interference in internal affairs and the non-use or threat of force is the foundation of sustainable development.”
