UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi stressed on Tuesday the need to end all “illegal” Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution after the Israeli minister stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Emirates News Agency reported that two ministers considered the assault on the courtyard of the mosque by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Tuesday “a violation of international law and a dangerous escalation.”
The two ministers stressed the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo and not compromise the authority of the authorities governing Jerusalem and the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
America called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to honor his pledges to maintain the status quo of holy sites after Israel’s new far-right national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir visited the Al-Aqsa mosque complex. .
A spokesman for the White House National Security Council said on Tuesday that any unilateral action that undermines the status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem is unacceptable.
“The United States strongly supports the maintenance of the status quo regarding holy sites in Jerusalem. Any unilateral action that undermines the status quo is unacceptable,” the spokesman added, adding that the United States urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to maintain his commitment to the status quo of holy sites.
