Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council member Shams al-Din Kabbashi said on Sunday that the military has a responsibility to protect the constitution and “democratic civil order.”
“We hope that the political forces will move forward in bringing the country out of the crisis,” added Kabbashi, who arrived with a delegation in Kadugli in the state of South Kordofan on an official visit to the state.
The Sovereignty Council statement cited Kabbashi as saying that the political process under the framework agreement signed by the military and civilian components late last year “did not receive sufficient agreement.”
The statement indicated that the member of the Sovereignty Council recognized the “failure” of the government and security services to carry out some of their duties, pointing out the importance of imposing the prestige of the state, intensifying deterrent laws and holding those responsible to account. .
Kabbashi warned of a deterioration in the security situation if the issue of the spread of unregulated weapons among citizens is not addressed.
Kabashi urged Popular Movement leader Abdulaziz al-Hila to sign an agreement to end “hostilities” with the government and establish peaceful coexistence in preparation for negotiations.
