Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he was “confident” that his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, orchestrated the attack on government buildings in Brasilia and was seeking a “coup”.
Lula explained in an interview with Ready TV! Local “Today I understand and say it out loud: this citizen (former President Bolsonaro) planned a coup.”
In response to a question about the role of the former president in these events, Lula confirmed: “I am sure that Bolsonaro was actively involved in this and continues to try.”
Lula’s statements came on the day that Senator Narcos de Val confirmed that he participated in a meeting with the former president during which the idea of preventing Lula’s access to power was raised.
“I was invited to a meeting with Bolsonaro on December 9 by his assistant, former MP Daniel Silvera. At the meeting, Silvera asked me to try to persuade Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court judge who runs Brazil’s highest electoral body, to ensure that incriminating comments are made,” the senator said. Stating that Bolsonaro “sat silently” while Silvera hatched a plot against the judge.
