Frenchman Guy Dreux, a member of the International Olympic Committee, said there is no reason why Russians and Belarusians should not be eligible to compete in international competitions.

“There is no reason to deny Russian and Belarusian athletes the right to participate in international sporting events, especially when it comes to the Olympic Games,” Francetvinfo quotes Drew.

The French pointed out that the participation of athletes in competitions should not be a consequence of what is happening in the political arena.

On January 25, the International Olympic Committee called on sports federations to consider allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in a neutral position.

The head of the International Olympic Committee, Herman Thomas Bach, also said that governments should not decide on the admission of athletes to international competitions.

Earlier, Russian sports commentator Yolanda Chen, president of the International Olympic Committee, called for the postponement of the Paris Olympics due to the situation in the world.
