Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s book “full of lies and double standards.”
In his book Never Back Down: Fighting for the America I Love, Pompeo described at least two trips to Turkey, one of which showed him in Ankara, in 2017, the 3-year-old film “The Hours After the Failed Coup of the Year” . ago a former foreign minister called it “incredible and too long”. And in 2019, he accompanied Vice President Pence and “nearly broke down the door” in the presidential administration when the vice president’s meeting with Erdogan continued.
Cavusoglu said at a press conference with his Thai counterpart, which was broadcast on Twitter: “In diplomatic language, there are lies, exaggerations and double standards in these statements. The book also contains a number of statements that do not correspond to reality.”
Cavusoglu recalled Pompeo’s tweet on the night of the Turkish coup d’état in which he called Turkey a “total Islamic dictatorship.” Maybe the movie is too long.
Speaking about Turkey’s fight against Islamic State terrorists, Cavusoglu noted that while Ankara was fighting terrorists, the Americans “sent ISIS fighters to Afghanistan.”
