The Sudanese delegate to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, called for maximum pressure on the Rapid Support Forces to stop their violations, noting that their attacks on civilians have left a painful reality in Darfur and are still ongoing in El Geneina, Zalingei. and Nyala.
Idris indicated at the Security Council meeting on Sudan today, Thursday, that the militias are working to destroy the Sudanese state, explaining that attacks by the Rapid Support rebel militias on the armed forces and attacks by allied militias on populations in the states of Darfur, especially in the city of El Geneina in Western Darfur State have become a reality. A dire humanitarian situation as civilians are targeted and the infrastructure needed to provide basic services has been destroyed. .
He added that yesterday, militias supported by the Rapid Support Forces arrested West Darfur Governor Khamis Abdullah Abkar and then killed him, despite being a signatory to the Juba Peace Agreement.
Regarding the involvement of foreign elements in the RSF fighters, Idris said, “The participation of foreign elements in the RSF fighters has been proven, and some of them have been openly filming videos during their participation in the fighting, revealing advanced and intelligent weapons that have leaked.”
Idris pointed out that UN Security Council Resolution 1591 of 2005 banning the arming of the Sudanese Armed Forces contributed to weakening the state’s prestige and presence and maintaining the security and protection of civilians due to the arms embargo, leading to armed groups and limiting the government’s efforts to maintaining security.
And the Sudanese army announced at dawn Thursday that the Rapid Support Forces kidnapped and killed West Darfur Governor Khamis Abdullah Abkar and then killed him, considering his assassination “a brutal act added to their list of crimes.” .”
For his part, the head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, condemned the assassination of the governor of Western Darfur, accusing the Rapid Support Forces of involvement in the operation.
