Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the world is facing a major crisis and that the G20 countries must restore stability and growth to the global economy.

“Confidence in international financial institutions has been undermined. Partly because these institutions have been slow to reform. Now it’s up to you, the protectors of the world’s economies and leading currencies, to restore stability, confidence and growth on a global scale. This is not an easy task. However, I hope you find inspiration in the vibrant Indian economy.”

Modi pointed out that the world continues to grapple with the effects of the Covid pandemic, geopolitical tensions and unsustainable levels of debt.

Modi said that the theme of his country’s G20 presidency is “One land, one family, one future.”

India assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1 for a one-year term, from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023.

The G20 summit at the level of heads of state and government is scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10, 2023 in New Delhi.
